Watermelon

When summer comes, Always we find scarcity of water in our body due to sweat. We find scarcity of water supply to our home also but that cannot be solved by watermelon. Watermelon can solve the problem of less water inside body. Well, nature doesn't give problem without solution. Watermelon consists of 92% of water and 8% sugar. Generally, they are categorized into icebox and picnic. The icebox category is so called because the size of the melons, ranging from 5 to 15 pounds, allows them to fit in refrigerators. Picnics are larger, weighing from 15 to 50 pounds, yet they can grow much larger. Guinness book of world record has recorded a record of gigantic 279 pound watermelon. We are most familiar with the vivid reddish pink flesh dotted with black seeds, but there are also white, pink, yellow and orange fleshed varieties, both with seeds and without. Seedless varieties are not truly seedless, but actually do contains tiny white, edible immature seeds in lesser amounts than traditional watermelons. This fruit is one of my favorite fruit. Make this melon a part of our summer daily diet and you will reap amazing benefits that range from improving cardiovascullar health to nourishing your eyes are reviving up your immune system. Read to know about benefits of tasty, delicious watermelon-
  1. CARDIOVASCULAR AND BONE HEALTH- The lyconene in watermelon is especially important for our cardiovascular health and is now being recognized as an important facto in promoting bone health. Consuming large amount of watermelons of watermelons has also been correlated with improved cardiovascular function because it improves blood flow via vasodilation. Lyconene reduces oxidative stress which normally reduces the activity of osteoblasts and osteoclastd(the two major bone cell involved in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis) - this means stronger bones for those consuming lyconene rich foods. Watermelons is also rich in potassium which helps to retain calcium in our body, resulting in stronger bones and joints.
  2. REDUCES BODY FAT- The citrulline in watermelon has been shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in our fat cells. Citrulline is an amino acid which converts into arginine with the help from the kidneys. When our body absorbs citrulline it can take the step of converting into arginine if so required. Citrulline, when consumed, has ability to block the activity of TNAP(tissue nonspecific alkaline phosphatase) which makes our fat cells create less fat,and thus helps prevent over accumulation of body fat.

  1. ANTIOXIDANT SUPPORT- Watermelons are rich in phenolic compounds like flavonoids, carotenoids and triterpenoids. These are beneficial in reducing inflammation and neutralizing free radicals. They lso provide anti inflammatory support.
  2. KIDNEY SUPPORT- Watermelons is a natural diuretic which helps increase the flow of urine, but does not strain the kidney(unlike alcohol and caffeine). Watermelon helps the liver process ammonia(waste from protein digestion)which eases strain on the kidneys while getting rid of excess fluids
  3.  MUSCLE AND NERVE SUPPORT- Rich in potassium, watermelon is a natural electrolyte and thus helps regulate the action of nerves and muc=scles in out body. Potassium determines the degree and frequency with which our muscles contract, and controls the excitation of nerves in our body.
  4. ALKALINE FORMING- Watermelon habe an alkaline forming effect in the body when fully ripe. Eating lots of alkaline forming foods(fresh, rip, fruits and begetables) can help reduce your risk of developing disease and illness caused by a high acid diet(namely, meat, eggs and dairy).
  5. IMPROVE EYE- Watermelon is a wonderful source of betacarotene which is converted in the body to vitamin A. It helps produce the pigments in the retina of the eye and protects against age-related macular degeneration as well as prevents night blindness.Vitamin A also maintain healthy skin, teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, and mucus membranes.
  6. IMPROVE IMMUNITY- The vitamin C in watermelon is astoundingly high. Vitamin C is great at improving our immune system by maintaining the redox integrity of cells and thereby protecting them from reactive oxygen species(which damage our cells and DNA). The role of vitamin C in healing wounds has also been observed. If you are uffering from any slow healing wounds,up your intake of Vitamin C heavy fruits.
NOTE: however, eating excessive watermelon may concert good effect into bad effects. Eating excessive amount of watermelon can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, gas and indigestion. some people may develop allergic reactions to watermelon consumption like mild sever rash, facial swelling.
